Child Walking to Bus Stop Attacked by Dogs

An 11-year-old girl was attacked by two bull mastiffs while walking to her school bus stop. The attack occurred in Yonkers, New York in the morning. The dogs were unrestrained with the owner nowhere in sight. The dogs attacked the young girl by knocking her to the ground and biting her all over her body.

Bystanders attempted to separate the dogs from the child by throwing bottles and other objects at the dogs. The dogs remained undeterred. Eventually a good Samaritan was able to separate the girl from the dogs and drove her to the hospital. Shortly after the girl was taken to the hospital, the police arrived and attempted to restrain the dogs. The dogs continued to demonstrate aggressive behavior. The police were unable to control the dogs and were forced to shoot the dogs. Detectives have located the owner and questioned him.

The girl should make a full recovery from her injuries. However, she has been emotionally scarred from the attack. She tells her mother that she is concerned another dog will attack her when she walks to the bus stop. Fear of dogs is a common anxiety that many victims face after a dog attack. Some victims remain fearful of dogs for the rest of their lives.
